"Big Purple is Watching"

In the three weeks that I have been back in Abilene, I think approximately 99% of my time has been devoted to band. Whether leadership training, welcome week, picture taking, rehearsing, spinning a flag...all to Big Purple. This week alone, in order to finish the photo directory, I have taken five trips to Eckerd to drop off, pick up, re-drop off, re-pick up, and re-pick up my pictures. This adventure also included an extra trip to Super Wal-Mart becuause the regular Wal-mart was out of white tagboard. (who runs out of white tagboard, seriously) So now, finally after approximately one bottle of rubber cement and other glue products, various afternoon games of 'guess that torso', living amidst a sea of black and purple paper scraps, and a pre-ultimate trip to the bandhall: It Is Finished.

Come to find out, the Big Purple is not the only music program that controls my life. All summer, I kept telling myself:
I am not going to do orchestra,
I will not do orchestra,
I shouldn't have to do orchestra because I work on Tuesdays,
If there is another bassoon I won't do orchestra,
If there are two bassoons I won't do orchestra,
I'll see if anyone auditions and then decide if I'll do orchestra,
I'll talk to Mr. Issacson and see if he needs me to be in orchestra.
- see the deterieration of confidence here? needless to say, I am now in orchestra.

The moral of the story is: God made me a band nerd, and I will always be a band nerd. Praise God for band nerds. What would the world be without them?
