Independence and Purpose

Independence: What I have learned in the past two weeks due to various life circumstances such as dead rats and break-ups.

Purpose: What I have discovered that my life has. This all came about starting Sunday night when I found out about the Highland accident. The car swerved off the road, over-corrected, and rolled several times killing one 11-year-old boy, and injuring everyone else in the car. When I heard this, my mind instantly returned to high school, returning from our youth group senior trip. A truck appeared to be drifting into our lane, the driver swerved to avoid it, over-corrected, the truck struck the side of the car and we spun and ended up in the median on the side of the road. All of us walked away without a scratch. Even at that time, the cop told us that there had recently been similar accidents in that area that were fatal because the car rolled. The hill coming down from the overpass had probably kept our car from rolling....better yet, God had kept our car from rolling.
Returning to now, I couldn't help but ask why the Highland accident was so horrible, and ours wasn't. I can't fully answer this question, but I do know that God was ready to take Brody Borland home. As for the rest of us, God has left us here for a reason. Whether we know what that reason is or not, our goal should be to live our lives pursuing God's purpose.

- Jeremiah 29:11,12 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you."

...suddenly dead rats and break-ups don't seem so important any more.
