Honduras Summary

*I'm taking this directly from the letter I'm sending to the people that helped support my trip...it gives a good quick summary of what we did.*

"We worked with an organization called Predisan, which means to preach and to heal. The purpose of Predisan is to develop and deliver integrated programs that improve the public health, the economic development, and the spiritual well-being of the families in the service area. In addition to The Good Samaritan Family Health Center located in Catacamas; Predisan also runs seven rural health centers. These rural clinics provide care to 11,000 people. Their vital activities include vaccinations, care for women’s health, monitoring child growth and development, control of disease and infection, and emergency first aid. One of the recent goals of Predisan is to certify these clinics under the new government standards. Once the clinics are certified, they will be eligible for more government funding.

We worked at the rural mountain clinic in Agua Caliente, about two hours from Catacamas. This clinic was the closest to meeting the certification requirements, and all it lacked was a proper ceiling. A properly installed ceiling would provide the clinic with better insulation and sanitation. The existing structure had a tin roof, and the rafters were all open. Our group spent the week installing support beams, and painting, cutting, and installing ceiling tiles. We were also able to paint the ceiling that had already been completed in two rooms of the clinic, and we were able to add trim to further seal the edges between the walls and the ceiling.

In addition to working at the clinic, we were able to visit one of the local elementary schools. We performed a skit depicting the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den, sang a few songs for the children, and left them some small gifts. It was such a blessing to see the joy in the lives of these children, knowing that they have so little."

And there you have it.
